Russell J. Schmitt, 78, of Mondovi, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire.
Russell was born on November 25, 1934, in Buffalo County to Alphonse and Lillian (Rossel) Schmitt. He enlisted for four years into the United States Navy serving on the submarine, US Odex in the Bering Sea. He married Jean Patzner on June 13, 1959, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Arcadia. Russell was the Business Manager for the Union Local 110, and later was a battery tester at Gould Batteries. He enjoyed reading about health medicine, keeping up with current events, and watching soap opera television with Jean.
Russell is survived by his wife Jean of Mondovi; sisters, Luetta Ellis of Michigan and Sharon Goegins of Winona, MN; sister-in law, Donna Soppa of Arcadia; brother-in-law, Joe (Mary) Patzner of Eleva; seven nephews; nine nieces; and many great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Pape and Delores Lorenz; brother-in-law, Ralph Soppa; and sisters-in-law, Maureen Bork and Betty Klink.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia with Father Raj officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Saturday from 9:00 until the time of service at church. Burial with Military Rites performed by Tickfer-Erickson Post #17 will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, rural Arcadia.
