Rufus C. Filla age 86, of Arcadia, WI died Sunday December 14, 2014, at Gundersen Tri- County Care Center in Whitehall, WI.
Rufus was born November 21, 1928, to Charles and Helen (Klimek) Filla in Lewis Valley rural Arcadia. On January 16, 1950, Rufus married Martha Gandera at St. Michael's Catholic Church in North Creek. They were happily married for 48 years.
Rufus worked at A- G Coop as a cheese and butter maker for 40 years. He was a member of the Arcadia Glencoe Fire Department for 28 years, and during his tenure was the Department President. He was on the City of Arcadia City Counsel for 20 years and also served as counsel President during his tenure, a member of the Arcadia Ambulance Service, he was caretaker for Calvary Cemetery for a number of years and a member of the OLPH Church Counsel. Rufus was an avid deer hunter, and shot his trophy deer in 1987. He truly loved the outdoors and being in the woods.
Rufus is survived by 3 daughters; Sharon (Jim) Mikula of Marshfield, WI, grandson; Chris,granddaughters; Morgan, Madison, granddaughter; Gina (Bill) Hoffman, great grandchildren; Haley, Jonah, Lucas, granddaughter; Meggan (John) Wingerter, great grandchildren; Benjamin, Thomas, Madeliene and William, Grandson; Andrew, daughter; Mary Jane (Steve) Gilkerson of Minnetonka, MN, granddaughter; Jill (Justin) Marthaler, great granddaughter; Isla, grandson; Dan, daughter; Julie (Rick) Smith of Brookfield, WI, grandson; Joe (Samantha), great grandson; Ethan, granddaughter; Jamie (Jason) Rogers, great grandchildren; Abigail and Alaina, grandson; Stephen, granddaughter; Tracy, 3 sons; Thomas (Tammy) Filla of Fontana, CA, granddaughter; Jackie Ann, grandson; Chad (Candace), great granddaughter; Brielle, granddaughter; Jennifer, son; Daniel (Nancy) Filla of Arcadia, WI, grandson; Nic, granddaughters; Jessica (Neil), great grandchildren; Braylin and Kyedin, granddaughter ; Becca, son; James Filla of Arcadia, WI, granddaughters; Danielle, Rachael and MacKenzie, and a sister; Julia Sobotta of Arcadia, WI. Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Martha, a granddaughter; Angela, 2 sisters; Verna and Betty Jane, a brother; Ted and a sister-in-law Bernice.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 1:00 PM Saturday December 20, 2014, at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia, WI Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Arcadia, WI. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Friday, December 19, 2014, at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home and from Noon until 1:00 PM Saturday at the Church.
