Marlene Esther Gamoke, 86, died peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at her home in Arcadia, Wisconsin. She passed from us with the same dignity and grace with which she lived.
Marlene was born on the farm in Fountain City, Wisconsin on November 26, 1930, to Joseph and Leoba (Patzner) Wolfe. Marlene grew up on the Wolfe Family farm in Doelle Valley before moving to Arcadia and graduating from Arcadia High School in 1948. She married Robert P. Gamoke on June 10, 1952, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia, by Father Smetna.
She resided in Arcadia for her entire life. Before and during the first few years of her marriage she worked at the Dr. William English Dental Office. Robert died suddenly on June 1, 1974, when their youngest child was only one year old. After raising her family, she served as secretary for OLPH and Holy Family Parishes for many years until retirement. Marlene enjoyed traveling, having visited many states including Hawaii and Alaska. A highlight for her was a trip to Rome and the Vatican. She loved spending time at the cottage on Blue Lake near Minocqua. She enjoyed being on a bowling and golf team. During retirement, she avidly worked on crossword and jigsaw puzzles and loved watching Brewer's baseball. Marlene was a member of Holy Family Parish and its P.C.C.W.
Marlene was an avid homemaker, and gardener. She was known by her devoted family and friends for her optimism, quiet strength, generosity and concern for others. Marlene's grace in all areas of her life will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her. With great love, she taught us responsibility, humility, and how to care for each other. Her legacy of humor and love for family and friends is assurance that she will never be forgotten.
