Humberto "Mickey" R. Valdez, 77, of West Covina, CA, passed away on September 13, 2012, at his home.
Mickey was born on July 18, 1935, to Jesus and Margarita (Romero) Valdez in Douglas, AZ. He married the love of his life, Dolores Huizar, on November 21, 1959, in Douglas. He enlisted in the Army Reserves and was active until his honorable discharge in 1961. Mickey loved his family. He loved visiting with all his friends in Arcadia, who recruited him to become a loyal Green Bay Packer fan. You could always find Mickey busy working on a project whether he was in California, Arizona, Arcadia or Corpus Christi.
Mickey is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dolores of West Covina, CA; sons, Mickey Valdez of Alexandria, VA, and Mario (Tanya) Valdez of Corpus Christie, TX; daughters, Elva (Michael) Helwig of Arcadia, and Ruby Valdez of Pasadena, CA; a grandson, John Helwig of Arcadia; and a sister, Celia Salazar of Douglas, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Maria Helwig; four brothers; and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Holy Family Parish, 223 Maple Street, Arcadia, with Father Raj officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at church. Burial with Military Rites performed by Tickfer-Erickson Post #17 will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Arcadia.
