George C. Blaha, 89, of Arcadia passed away on Monday, December 03, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Arcadia Nursing Home.
George was born on February 14, 1923, in Independence, WI to John and Salmaya (Palkowski) Blaha. He was united in marriage to Helen Symitczek on October 25, 1945, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee. George was a member of Holy Family Parish and was employed as a mechanic and welder for John Deere. George was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He also enjoyed barbecuing for special events.
George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen of Arcadia; son Gerald (Geraldine) of Blair; grandson, John (Mary) Blaha; granddaughters, Kelly (Clint) Harmston and Ariel Bilskey; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Roman; sister, Monica Hagenbarth; nephew, Albert Blaha; and niece, Joan Rein.
A Memorial Mass in George's honor will be at 11 A.M. on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Holy Family Parish with Father Raj officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 9:30 A.M. to the time of service at church on Thursday. It was George's wishes to have his body donated to Mayo Clinic Health System Department of Anatomy. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date.
