Florence Emma Marie Staak, 91, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, MN.
Florence was born on January 27, 1923, in the township of Waumandee, Wisconsin, to Werner and Alma (Schaffner) Gahnz. She was received into the family of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on May 27, 1923, at Christ Lutheran Church, Cochrane. Her sponsors were Mrs. Emma Schaffner and Marie Gahnz. She publicly confirmed her faith in the Lord at Christ Lutheran Church on March 21, 1937. She was a lifelong member of Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, Cochrane. Florence had worked with the Red Cross Blood Bank, giving 16 gallons of blood herself. She also worked at the School House Shop.
On September 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to William Staak, where she walked over the hill with her pillow and a milk stool. The Lord blessed their marriage with two children and with 45 years of married life. William preceded her in death on October 31, 1987.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Janet Skold-Novotny; her son, Jim (Bobbe) Staak both of Cochrane; one grandson, John Breen; two great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one niece, one nephew; and a host of other relatives and friends. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Willard and Wally; her sister Alverna; and her son-in-law, Steve Novotny.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Cochrane, with Rev. Mark Wilde officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until the time of services on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Buffalo City Cemetery.
