Evelyn Kathrine Slaby, 90, of Arcadia, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health System- Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse.
Evelyn was born on July 30, 1929, to John and Clara (Breska) Kotlarz in Arcadia. She married Dominic "Dick" Slaby on September 15, 1947, at the old hospital in Arcadia. Together the couple farmed for a short time before owning and operating Dick's Bar in Arcadia for 30 years. After retirement, Evelyn worked briefly for the Galesville Cannery and picked eggs for a local farm. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, gardening, crafting with plastic canvas, canning, word searches, and occasional trips to the casino. Evelyn had a sweet tooth, and always enjoyed eating cookies, candy, and other desserts. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, PCCW, and a lifetime member of Women of the World.
Evelyn is survived by her sons: Dennis (Rita) Slaby, John "Jack" T. (Dorothy "Dottie") Slaby, and Rolland "Rollie" (Nancy) Slaby; daughters: Judy (Richard Skroch) Waletzko, Chris (Walter) Kulig, Lois (Joseph) Woychik, Lori Symitczek, and Cynthia (Richard "Mack") McFarland; 31 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Dascher; and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Mary Dascher; sisters: Angeline Klink, Irene Kujak and Romelle Pellowski; brothers: Adolph, Johnny, twin brother: Edwin "Buddy", and Jim Kotlarz; and son-in-law: James "Jim" Symitczek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 27, 2019, at Holy Family Parish with Father Kyle Laylan officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of mass at church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Arcadia.
