Donald "Donnie" Louis McDougall, 59, of rural Melrose, passed away on February 22, 2019, under the care of Black River Hospice, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Donnie was born in Whitehall, WI to Russell and Lois (Salzwedel) McDougall on December 13, 1959. He graduated from Blair High School with the class of 1978. He married the love of his life and his high school sweetheart, Sidney Anderson on June 13, 1981, at Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church. Together they raised two beautiful daughters, Christine and Carrie. For the past 15 years, until his retirement in August 2018, he worked for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Corrections at Jackson Correctional Institute.
Donnie enjoyed flowers, hunting, fishing, bees and music; finding any excuse to provide the soundtrack for the moment. He was a steward of the land, planting trees and shrubs that could provide nourishment for all creatures. Not wanting his family to ever be ill-equipped or ill-prepared, he could often be found roaming the aisles of Wal-Mart, Theisens or Menards, stocking up on "essentials". He enjoyed a good laugh and telling stories, some tall but never short. With all things in life, he never just dipped his toe in, he dove in. Once he made his mind up, no obstacle was too great. He tackled his cancer diagnosis with the same enthusiasm. Of his many lifes' loves, the greatest was his love and pride for his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
Donnie is preceded in death by his mother, Lois; father-in-law, Mahlon Anderson; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Sidney; daughters: Christine (Chris) Boe of Taylor and Carrie (Haakon) Folkedahl of Galesville; 4 Grandsons: Jaxon, Evan, Andrew and Cooper Boe; 1 Granddaughter, Charlie Folkedahl; father, Russell McDougall of Blair; brother, Rodney (Patsy) McDougall; sisters: Renee Syverson, Jackie (Keith) Sexe and Lizzie (Rod) McDougall-Saxe; mother-in-law, Marjorie Anderson; brother-in-law, David (Becky) Dalzell; sisters-in-law: Camille (Art) Hoem and Lois Butters; several aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews.
