David Matthew Hoesley, 88, of Dodge, Wisconsin died on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Grandview Care Center in Blair, Wisconsin surrounded by his family. David was born on October 8, 1935, to Robert and Elizabeth (Brom) Hoesley Sr. He graduated from Arcadia High School where he earned the nickname "The Governor". He then went on to join the National Guards and served in the Army. On December 31, 1965, he married the love of his life Sylvia Dahl at the Zion Lutheran Church in Blair, Wisconsin.
David was active in the community. He served on the Arcadia Public School Board, the Dodge Fire Department, and was a founding and lifelong member of the Dodge Sportsman's Club. He also helped establish the Dodge Sanitary District. David was an avid Tractor Puller. In 1968 he won first place in the Wisconsin Championship Tractor Pull in Dorchester, Wisconsin. He loved pulling tractors and watching tractor pulls around the area making lifelong friends. David spent his life farming, starting with his dad and brothers and then continuing with his son and nephews. Many people in the community liked to stop up at the farm known by locals as "Tin City" to visit. If you ever needed to borrow a tool, he was sure to have it and would even tell you how to use it. He was always there and willing to help people when they needed it. He enjoyed watching his wife play softball, his children and grandchildren play sports, as well as attending many other family members sporting events.
David is survived by his two children: Michael (Lu Anne) Hoesley and Melissa (Todd) Neitzel both of Dodge. His 6 grandchildren: Napela, Kal, Lydia, Bo Hoesley and Selena and Cameron Neitzel. His sisters-in-law: Marilyn Hoesley, Olga Hoesley, and Jean Hoesley. He was preceded in death by his wife: Sylvia on Sept. 11, 2011; his siblings: Henry, Roy, Gilbert (Bonnie), Robert Jr, Rose (Ray) Haugen, and Helen (George) Felsheim.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Central Lutheran Church in Winona, MN with Rev. Michael Short officiating. Friends and family may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Pine Creek, Wisconsin, with military rites by Tickfer-Erickson Legion Post 17.
