Clarice Wendland

January 9, 1929 — April 27, 2017

Clarice(Pronschinske) Wendland, 88, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2017 at the Onalaska Care Center.
Clarice was born in the Town of Glencoe on January 9, 1929 to Albert and Lu (George) Pronschinske. She grew up on the family farm in rural Arcadia and was a graduate of the Acadia High School in 1946. Clarice was very active in high school activities and most proud to have been the drum majorette for the high school marching band earning her a high school letter for her sweater. After high school Clarice ventured off to the big city of Minneapolis to work at Lloyds of London Insurance Underwriters. Clarice was married in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Merlin Wendland in 1951 and later became the best Mother to her two children, Howard and Sharon. She worked for many years for the Ladish Company in Cudahy but spent most of her working career in the Cudahy Public Schools where she held various positions including administrator in the Business Office and Secretary to the Principal of the junior high school. Clarice and her family lived in Milwaukee and Cudahy until she and Merlin retired to Onalaska in 1994 to be closer to her family/cousins and the best fishing spots for Merlin.
Clarice always enjoyed the company of her family and many friends and her time spent volunteering first at St. Lukes Hospital in Milwaukee and then at the Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse. She was also an active member for the Pronschinske Heritage Center where she assisted in researching the family trees and planning for the many reunions that were held over the years. Clarice loved to travel; enjoying many road trips with her sister JoAnn and brother-in-law Rob, numerous bus trips with friends around the USA, and a wonderful trip to the European homeland with her cousin Leo Pronschinske to visit the original Pronschinske ancestoral home. Clarice also traveled to Europe twice to visit her son and his family in England while there making trips to France, Holland, Belgium(Bruges was her favorite town) and Germany. Like her Mother Lu; Clarice was a very active quilter and made many a quilt masterpiece that now adorn her families' homes including some beautiful quilt wall hangings. Her favorite hobby; and something she wanted to do every day, was to play cards. 500 and euchre, were her favorite games as well as solitaire in her later years. Many a night was spent in laughter around the card table playing 500 in Grandpa and Grandma Pronschinske's house. Clarice made sure to teach her children and grandchildren how to play 500 and euchre so the tradition would be carried on. To her last days she always asked to play cards with her nursing home friends.
She was survived by her husband Merlin Wendland; Son, Howard (Nan); Daughter, Sharon,;Grandsons, Nathan (Lindsay), Alva (Mandy),Tony (Lyz); Great-Granddaughters, Lexi, Aubrey, Brenna, Grace and Kaiya; Sisters; Kathleen (Joe) Bocchi, JoAnn (Rob) Lemancik; Sisters-in-law; Delores (Albert Jr) Pronschinske and Pat (Harlan) Pronschinske and many nieces and nephews.
