Clarice C. (Haines) Bawek, 89, of Arcadia died on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Gundersen Tri County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, WI. Clarice was born on September 17, 1926, in Arcadia to Anton and Elizabeth (Sobotta) Soppa.
Clarice married Bernard Haines on September 18, 1945, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arcadia. Together they farmed in rural Arcadia until 1983. They raised 10 children on the farm. Bernard died in 1984. She then married Glen Bawek on July 28, 1989, in Eau Claire, WI. Clarice was a member of Holy Family Parish where she was active in the church. She sang in the choir, worked for the fall festivals, baked bread with the Holy Family Bread making committee. She had worked as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital, at the Winona Knitting Mills, and at Arcadia Dry Cleaning. Clarice loved to dance, bake bread, garden and take care of her flowers. She also played the accordion and piano by ear.
Clarice is survived by her husband: Glen of Arcadia; her children: Margaret (Tom) Patzner of Galesville, Barbara (Dave) Kissinger of Northfield, Marie (Thomas) Pronschinske of Mondovi, Marcus (Debbie) Haines of Arcadia, Virginette (Scott) Gamroth of Independence, Marcia (Norman) Benson of Arcadia, Charlotte (Alan) Semling of Fountain City, Kathleen (Peter) Schank of Holmen; son-in-law: Jack Fulkerson of Oakdale, MN; daughter-in-law: Theresa Haines of Galesville; sister: Therese James of Wichita, KS; brother Dr. Richard Soppa of Rockford, IL; 28 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law: Hank (Mary Ann) Haines of Winona, Joe (Pat) Haines of Arcadia; sister-in-law: Theresa Korpal of Milwaukee; step children: Jeff (Carol) Bawek of Arcadia, Brad (Lori) Bawek of Winona, Rebeca (Ted) Ankrum of Andover, MN, Margo (Scott) Bautch of Wausau, David (Dena) Bawek of Spring Valley, Craig (Lynelle) Bawek of Arcadia; 17 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Bernard Haines; son: Francis Haines; daughter: Patricia Fulkerson; brothers: Marcel, Fred, Lawrence, Mike; sisters: Monica Rumpel, Sister Miranda Soppa, Sister Elise Marie Soppa, Martha Pronschinske, Gertrude Soppa; son-in-law: Ralph Remus; and step son: Justin Bawek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish, in Arcadia with Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk officiating. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Holy Family Parish where there will be a 7:00 PM rosary. They may also call on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
