Claraton ‘Smitty' J. Smith died Tuesday, Oct 4, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born Jan 11, 1932, to William and Paula (Venus) Smith. He married Janet Matchey on Sept 8, 1956, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year with family.
He attended Oak Grove and Saint Aloysius School and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1949. He continued his education at Winona Business College. Smitty was employed at AG Coop and served on various committees and on the Board of Directors at WI Dairy Products. He was a member of the Lions Club and served as a past president. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Arcadia Sportsmen's Club, Friday Nite Card Club, Men's Bowling League, Golf League and served as a past secretary of the Arcadia Country Club.
He loved golfing on Wednesday Men's Night, Friday afternoon with friends and weekends with his family. He also greatly enjoyed morning coffee shaking dice with the guys. He enjoyed farming and gardening with his children and grandchildren and the many wood cutting and hunting outings.
He was a member of the Holy Family Parish. Smitty is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Barbara (James) Garofalo, their children, Anthony and Joseph, William Smith, Robert (Kristin) Smith, their children, Ashley and Allison (Wallace) Linsmeyer, Brain and Benjamin Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gordon, his sisters, Sister Mary Gregory (Lodi) and Doris Sonsalla. A Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m October 7, 2016, Friday at Holy Family Parish with visitation from noon to services. Wozney-Killian Funeral Home assisted the family.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic School, Arcadia Ambulance Service or preference of your choice.
